Jonathan Stuckey as Dulcamara

Jonathan Stuckey earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance from Ohio University in 1998. He went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance at The Peabody Conservatory of Music in 2001. At Peabody, he studied voice with internationally renowned bass-baritone, John Shirley-Quirk. Jonathan is currently a DMA student in voice at The Ohio State University, studying with C. Patrick Woliver.

Jonathan’s operatic repertoire ranges from serious roles, including Sarastro in The Magic Flute and Le Comte Des Grieux in Manon, to comic roles such as Don Alhambra in The Gondoliers and the Police Sergeant in The Pirates of Penzance. The Columbus Dispatch has described his voice as “wonderful … with lots of oomph and vocal resonance.”

Jonathan has performed principal roles with Lyric Opera Cleveland, Baltimore Opera Company, and Des Moines Metro Opera. He was featured in a national touring production of Amahl and the Night Visitors, performing the role of Balthazar. The tour was produced and directed by David Aikens, who sang Melchior in the original NBC production.

In addition to his performing career, Jonathan has been a vocal instructor, choral conductor, choral arranger, and classroom teacher. His arrangement of Steal Away was recorded by the Singing Men of Ohio. He taught African American Music History at Baltimore City Community College. In the fall of 2007 he began an appointment with Ohio State’s Office of Minority Affairs Minority Advising Program, where he is a retention counselor to over 100 undergraduates.
