The Latest Adventure

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

What a year I’ve been having. The latest adventure is a good one. I had an allergic reaction to some skin cream. A rash of beautiful pustules broke out all over my body. The doctor put me on steroids and antihistamines. Now the rash is gone, but my skin is incredibly dry and peeling. No amount of moisturizer can keep my skin from cracking and flaking. I can assure you, I look marvelous.

Life just keeps getting better and better! Uh oh, time to go use up another bottle of Lubriderm.

Power Overwhelming

“Power Overwhelming” is what the game Starcraft says when you enter in the invincibility cheat code. I wish my life had cheat codes.

Interesting Things About Me

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

These things probably aren’t that interesting to anyone else, but I’ll post them here anyway. Hey, It’s my website.

  • I was angry when Anita Baker and Holly Robinson got married, probably because it meant I no longer had any chance with either of them. Never mind the fact that I had no chance with either of them anyway.
  • All of the shirts hanging in my closet must face my right.
  • I can’t use keys with my right hand. Nothing is physically wrong with my right hand; keys just feel wrong in it.
  • It’s become impossible for me to abide the misuse of the word “its” in print. For your edification: It’s “it’s” only when it’s a contraction of “it is” or “it has.” It’s “its” when its use is possessive.
  • I generally don’t like [rap|country|death metal], but I hate it when people dismiss [rap|country|death metal] as a musical art form.
  • I also generally don’t like abstract art in any medium, but I hate it when people dismiss it as an art form.

More will be added as time goes on.

My Duty as a Buckeye

Saturday, November 18th, 2006

I am obliged to say this as an OSU student:

Go Bucks! Beat Michigan! O-H! I-O!

Okay, I’ve done my part.

What’s New?

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

Okay, I haven’t put anything up here in quite a while. I have a life. Sue me. Anyway, here’s a summary of my life since June.

The Lyric Opera Cleveland apprenticeship program ended with a bang. We performed the world premiere of Florida, with music by Randall Eng and text by Donna DiNovelli. Mark Adamo was in the audience and came to the afterparty. He was very nice, and had nice things to say about all of us. Very encouraging!

Once the LOC program was finished, I spent 2 weeks taking care of the mother of one of Mary’s church friends. My job was to prepare her daily medications and food and put them into her feeding machine. Oh yeah, she was on a feeding tube. That was a fun job, as I only had to check on her occasionally, and I had the run of the house all day and night.

On August 25th, Mary’s grandfather passed away at the age of 93. Mary was very close to her grandfather, and she misses him terribly.

In September Mary and I moved to Columbus, and on September 20th I officially became an Ohio State University student. Go Bucks!

Right about the time we moved, Mary had her tonsils taken out. It wasn’t a horrible recovery, but it was no picnic.

So here I am, a first-year doctoral student at The Ohio State University. I’ll write more about that some other time.

The shows were pretty good today. It was rainy though, and we were all struggling with allergies. But we were still good.

Let the Blogging Begin!

Howdy, Y’all!

In these pages, I intend to describe my experiences in the world of Opera. If you like it, please register and leave me a comment. If you don’t like it, shove off! To clarify, I enjoy constructive criticism and lively, civil debate. But I have no desire to deal with annoying crap. Hey, it’s my website. If you want to flame me, get your own!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it!
